Yay Amsterdam!
April 5th, 2007 -- Posted in Netherlands | No Comments »We both loved Amsterdam! What a gorgeous city. The canals running through the city as well as the architecture are just beautiful. I have never seen such a tall and thin group of people! There are bikes everywhere and they even have multi-level parking garages dedicated only to bikes. Amsterdan is very flat, so it is biker heaven.
We spent our first evening on a “pub cruise” on the canals. We joined about 20 older Dutch folk (a family of drinkers for sure!) a Norwegian couple who knew how to says “cheers!” and another couple who pretty well kept to themselves. It was a great way to see the city, the lights from the houses and businesses looked amazing from the boat, plus it was all you can drink (Heineken, of course). After the cruise we headed to the Red Light District, checked out the coffee shops and saw what there was to see. What a crazy place! It was a really fun night.
We were in Amsteram for four days and spent a lot of time walking around the city, saw the Van Gogh Museum, etc. On our last day we visited the Keukenhof Gardens and the tulip fields. Wow, I’ve never seen so many tulips. It was so beautiful and I highly recommend a visit.
Overall, I really liked Amsterdam. It felt good being there and though I was looking forward to Morocco, it is a city that I would have liked to spend more time in.
